November 27-30: The Ring (Complete)

Richard Wagner’s ‘Der Ring des Nibelungen’ is one of the grandest works in the entire opera repertory, both in length and in musical and thematic scope. In his epic four-part work, Wagner tackles the themes of greed, the lust for power, and the redemptive powers of love. Pianist and composer Cord Garben was asked to condense this immense masterpiece from ca. 14 to ca. 7 hours for the Teatro Colón. The result is broadcast on brava from November 27 to 30!

December 1-5: Beautiful Brahms

He was one of the ‘Three Bs’, alongside Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven: Johannes Brahms (1833 –1897). This Hamburg composer, who spent most of his professional life in Vienna, was a virtuoso pianist who composed for piano, chamber ensembles, symphony orchestras, and for voice and chorus. As an introduction to Brahms – or as a way to renew your acquaintance – brava devotes December 1 to 5 to this masterful composer. Beautiful Brahms: December 1 – 5 on brava!
